Mowi – The Original
Once Mowi – always Mowi
A FTG Mowi forestry trailer is highly manoeuvrable and well built to withstand tough days in the forest. Mowi parallel-guided forest cranes are strong, fast, easy to drive cranes that require low oil flow. This results in lower fuel consumption with better operator environment and best overall economy.
The Mowi forestry crane was invented and developed by Wiking Gunnarsson with a unique movement pattern that allows you to get high above the load and far down slopes with unrivalled speed.
FTG forest trailers and forest cranes are designed, developed and built in Bäckefors – by people who also work in the forest themselves.
Mowi forest trailers and forest cranes are sought after on the market with high resale value, which makes it extra nice when you want to trade it for a new Mowi. Because as those who once had Mowi are often heard to say – Once Mowi – always Mowi!
With Mowi’s unique forest cranes and well-built forest trailers, you get a smooth-running and agile forestry vehicle that makes your work in the forest fast, efficient and fun. Simply a good day in the forest.
Mowi – for a good day in the forest
The original born from an idea for a better crane
It all started with an idea
It all started when Wiking Gunnarsson had an idea for a forestry crane based on the principle of parallelisation. He had a lot of experience in forestry work from his company “Moderna Traktortransporter” and believed that a crane built according to the parallelisation concept could make work in the forest easier, faster and better.
After thinking and calculating about his idea for a while, he had the concept in mind. Wiking read in the local newspaper about a mechanical workshop in Bäckefors that was not very busy and went there with his drawings. Adil Wikhede at Wikhede Mekaniska liked the idea and together they built prototypes that they tested and further developed.
From the first letters of the two companies’ names, Moderna Traktortransporter and Wikhede Mekaniska, the brand Mo-Wi, or as we say today, Mowi, was created. They started serial production of the first Mowi cranes in the early 1980s. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Standard on many harvesters
The concept of parallel motion was also developed for cranes for forest machines and the Mowi name became symbolic of an easy-to-use machine. Some machines still work with Mowi harvester cranes, such as Tigercat and Sampo Rosenlew to name a few. Today, in addition to cranes and forest trailers, FTG also sells Mowi cranes for smaller forest machines such as Vimek, Malwa and Terri.
The patent for the larger harvester cranes was originally held by Kockums, which was later acquired by Rauma Repola, now part of the John Deere Group. The concept of the parallel-guided crane is still used on today’s John Deere harvesters.
A part of Forest Technology Group
Wikhede Mekaniska thus became Mowi and continued in the same premises in Bäckefors, Dalsland as before.
In 2005, Forest Technology Group (FTG) was formed as a merger of several leading technology companies in the forestry industry in Sweden, of which Mowi is an important part.
FTG is in turn a subsidiary of Bruks Siwertell Group, a world leader in dry bulk handling and wood processes.
